CCX-33928
is
a Contemporary Cobra, the most respected name in the reproduction
Cobra market for nearly 20 years, produced by the legendary Contemporary
Classic Motor Car Company of Mamaroneck, New York. It has
a reputation of being the most precise rendition and the best
engineered of all the aftermarket Cobras. Contemporary
Cobras enjoy a collectibility status all their own. I have had
three Contemporary Cobras, each built by the premier and
respected builder Don Borders [of Palm Springs, California; when
this exquisite serpent was built, Borders was the largest dealer
of Contemporary Cobras in the nation] and this one is
by far the very finest of all. It is one of the most-readily-recognized
Cobras on the West Coast. You can verify with Curt Scott that
this car and Don Borders are worthy of all this acclaim and more.
This
concours-class Cobra has captured countless 1st place,
Best of Show, Best engine, Best paint, People's Choice and
Best Sport Car awards, and is one of the most recognized
and award-winning serpents on the entire West Coast. The coachwork
finish is PPG paint formulated by Finishmaster
and custom mixed by builder Don Borders: 2006 Ford GT Midnight Blue with white stripes.
It boasts a magnificent 4"-diameter/ 1/8"-thick-wall,
round-tube chassis.
This
Cobra was completed in 1997 and driven and shown for four years,
when I sold it at a show to an older gentleman who simply had
to possess this car! He owned it for approximately 7 years before
I received a call from his wife advising me that he was seriously
ill and the car was for sale. He had pampered the car, so I lept
at the opportunity to purchase it back. It was in great shape
but not quite to my standards. I phoned Don Borders and a few
days later it was in his shop in Palm Desert going through a
thorough refitting/ refurbishing/ reconditioning. I wanted to
show it with my 2006 Ford GTX-1, so I decided to have it painted
to match the GTX-1. It went through extensive body and paint
work to make it straight and flawless. Every mechanical part
was checked and replaced or repaired as needed. I showed them
together at the San Francisco Rod and Custom show in February
'08 and they each captured First-in-(its)-Class against
unimpeachable competition. This is a show where only the best-of-the-best
are accepted as entries. CCX-33928 has been zipped up in a car
bag almost the entire time from that show until today. It looks
even better than you see it in these photos... perfect in
every respect!
